What pushed you to study quantum and particle physics, especially starting from such a young age?
Back when I was at Eton in the early to mid-1970s, particle physics was the most rapidly advancing field of science. It was an exciting time: there were significant new discoveries every few weeks. And it was really exciting for me to be part of that. Today that kind of excitement is what you find in lots of new “computational X” (X=archeology through zoology) fields.
